  • Backup gun

What do you guys think is a good backup pistol for washinton state. My biggest threat where i hunt is mountain lions. i currently carry either a 38 special snubby or a full size 1911.

We supposedly don't have cats here in Alabama but I know several people who would swear they saw one. For years, I carried a Ruger single-action in .45 Colt for backup and used it to great success on feral pigs. I never felt under-gunned with it on my hip. But that revolver is heavy.

So, in an effort to shed weight, I bought a Ruger SP101 in .357 mag with 4-inch barrel. It's a five shot like your snubby and thus has a thinner cylinder but with a longer sight radius. I've not used it on pigs but bet it would do well against a cat.
