When ice covers everything, where do the deer go? I have glassed areas known to have deer, walked through fields and looked into every thicket I could find, but still no deer until after the melt. Any and all help would be useful, Thank you.

The deer will yard in a forest during the winter. It would be a place that is protected from the elements, possibly a hollow surrounded by thick forest. Together they have the strength in their numbers for protection against predators and the elements - example: herded together they can stay warm. Once the weather gets better they split up and go their separate ways until the next time of bad weather.
