I recently went on vacation to San Antonio Texas. While there I went to the Buckhorn Saloon Museum that has thousands of animal mounts. There is a deer mounted with this over bite you're talking about. Unfourtunately it did not have any information as to why. Anyway, when I saw it I remembered reading this question.

correction: The deer had a severe OVER BITE. please see new question.

In the August 2009 issue of Outdoor Life, on page 34, there is an ad for Thomas Center Venture. The deer pictured there appears to have a severe under bite. Five to six years ago in upstate New York I shot a five point buck with the same condition (a 2-3 inch under bite). The locals that saw my deer said they always saw a five point buck feeding in the tall grass at the side of the fields instead of with the other deer in the field. Apparently he was having trouble grazing on the shorter grass. Have you ever seen this condition before? If so, what is it?Tags: None
