Skull Mount

This is actually the last deer I killed.
I was in a blind down on Red River.
I could see the river out the left side of the blind.
Not sure just exactly WHERE he came from, but he ended up in front of me, broad side, 60 yards away.
He dropped at the shot.

This is my first attempt at a skull mount. A friend allowed me to use his "Buck Boiler".
Not bad for a first attempt.

Stumbled onto some "barn wood" the kid had stuck back. First attempt at a display.

Whaddya think?

The wood was used as lath for a tin roof.
It is rough sawn 1×6. It is actually 6" wide by 1" thick and still has the sawmill marks.
They are 18 feet long!

No sir, it's pine.
We tore down a shack behind the kid's house. It was used as lath for the tin roof. It's rough sawn and a full 1"×6 1/8" by 18 feet long.
There are several, but only about 8 or 10 long ones.
The building also had ship lap. A bunch of it is 18 foot long.

We had a home in Texas that had "rough cedar" beams in the living room. You COULD NOT keep that stuff clean.
Sooo.... the board has been sanded just enough to get rid of the "whiskers".

Kid thought all that wood looked "clunky", but thought this "minimalist" look was better....er... acceptable! LOL!

Bubba, I like what you did with the mount. I've only done one deer and one pig in that style.

That's the only one I've done. Killed about a 300 pound boar one time. Wish I'd done HIS skull.
