It's more important to feed high protein around 18 per cent while working a dog on a regular basis, off season i'll cut back to 12 to 14 per cent, dry food is prefereed over canned .table scraps are out of bounds, feed one third of his ration couple hours prior to working him, then top him of on his return. FRESH WATER, CLEAN BEDDING AND REG EXERCISE WILL KEEP THEM IN CONDITION .

I have a brace of coon/bear hounds and 6phunter is pretty much on the money; higher protein/fat content in cold weather and hunting season, lesser content of both in warmer weather/off season. I look more at content than brand name and would add that in cold weather I wet my dry feed with hot water to give a warm meal and extra moisture when you can't keep those water pans thawed. I also give mine raw eggs from a local farm when I can get my hands on them for coat quality and a bit more protein and give them a can of canned mackerel about once a month, supposed to help with worms. Regarding the 1/3 ratio before hunting, that also helps to alleviate car sickness if you haul them. Good hunting!
