Locally morels don't start showing up until late March or early April.

Rain is about normal, all snow is gone and going to 60's tomorrow. Morels like the ground a little warmer - around 50. I look for sheds and morels at the same time.

I don't doubt that's true where elk reside, but there aren't many elk in Northeast Kansas :-)
