Baiting is not legal in Iowa, but I'm sure stored mast or any other valued natural food would be a great bait source for deer. I keep acorns for winter squirrel feeding in my yard and they knock each other over to got to them.

When deer are feeding on masting acorns I pick up a few to toss. Deer like their acorns very fresh and are attracted to the sound of falling acorns.

I've never hunted over bait. It would seem to me that you would need an awful lot of acorns to do much good. Don't you have to bait over a period of time?

Sounds like a good idea, I will have to save some nuts to try it. Maybe take a sling shot with me and launch some nuts around the area.

My cousin has big Oak trees in his yard. He rakes acorns into a large pile on the ground then he calls me up. I go over there with a few five gallon buckets and a shovel. I fill the buckets up in no time at all. The deer love huge acorns. I throw them all around my tree stand. It does work.

deer love acorns. I don't bait with them but several of my blinds are on hillsides with oaks at the bottom to get them to come in. Same forest nearby I have seen guys bring in 5 gallon buckets of acorns.

                    I'll probably use smaller containers

If the squirrels like it then I'm sure the deer will too!
