Is there anyway to survive an avalanche?

  • #2
Yes, you can survive an avalanche. Avalanches are very clumped together while falling down a slope. If you have a backpack with you, you could hold it in front of you and face the avalanche. the backpack will hopefully keep you on top of the avalanche like a body or boogy board or something. If you don't have a backpack with you, face away from the avalanche and use strong swimming motions to stay on top. If you do go under, make a hole in front of your face to make an air pocket. Spit on your hands. It will go down and the opposite way it goes will show you which way is up and out of the avalanche.

Fortunately, I've never been in an avalanche. For snow I think Bear Grylls1 has a great answer. For rock it would take a different technique. You would need to take what shelter you could behind a large boulder or tree.

You can sell it for a better vehicle LOL!!

But for real, there are avalanche survival classes and if you think you're going to be an in avalanche prone area you might want to look into one.
