What is your favorite rifle, scope, and bullet combo for whitetail.

We can't use centerfires for deer here in my part of Iowa, so I use T/C Omega muzzleloader topped with a Tasco World Class 2-8x32. The load is a 300 grain Lightfield BTHP sabot, propelled by 100 grains of FFG Triple 7.

Im torn between a Weatherby Ultra lite weight in a 25-06 with a VX 2 4-12 shooting a 110 gr accubond. Or my winchester feather weight in a 308 with a VX 3 2.5-8 shooting 150gr Remington Bronze point.

        I have a couple of favorites. A Remington 7400 carbine 18 1/2" barrel in 30-06 with 3X9 scope. A Mauser 6.5X55 and 4X12 scope. A Winchester '94 30-30 and last a Marlin 336 30-30 with a 3X9 scope.
        Remington 7400 would be a 180gr core-lok bullet.
Mauser bullet is a 140gr Hornady.
The 30-30's are the 160gr Hornady Leverevolution.

Given the wide range of habitat that whitetail can be found in I would go with that 25-06. It would be a better rifle if you needed to take a longer shot since it shoots flatter. It would, in my opinion, do just as well as the 308 in the timber as well.

In Pa, you're not taking a deer shot past 60-75 yards max. I'd absolutely go with a Savage 110 .30-06 with a Nikon ProStaff 3x9, a Hornady Super Performance 150gr bullet.

I have two that I use and they have both proven to be very effective with kills out to 200 yards. They are a Vanguard in .270 Winchester and a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40 scope and Marlin XL-7 in 30-06 with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x50 scope. I use Remington Core-lokt ammunition in 130 gr for the .270 and 150 grain for the 30-06.

dom 1987 what side of the state do you hunt? Im on the SW side in farm land and we can do some shooting out here. You are right about most PA woods. But no field hunting where you are?

my favorite is my marlin XL-7 30-06 with a Nikon Prostaff. For ammo it's a toss up of the Remington core-lokts and the Winchester super Xs soft points in 150 grain. May not be the best but it did the job for me this year and hopefully the following years to come.
