I reload my own shells for hunting and since I don't target shoot a lot, the smokeless powder and primers often remain on the shelf for a long period of time. What is the shelf life for powder and primers and what is the best way to store them?

powder will last idefintely i suppose if kept dry, the primers may lose thier seal but i've got some ammo left from 1962 that's never failed yet.

powder can get old, if you pour some out on a piece of paper and it looks rusty (like it's starting to rust) it won't have even burn times. I got some from a friend that was I don't know how old and it look kind of rusty to me so I just poured it out on the drive way in a nice even line and lit it up. it did not burn consistently. I have used primers that have been 20 years old and they seem to work just fine.
