Krowtann is the best. I have done 4 white tail deer with one bottle. No salting need just flesh the best you can and put in the mix for 3 to 4 days. Pull out wash off and finish fleshing. Stretch or work until you reach the softness you want.

Huh, that's funny. The stuff I was thinking of comes in a bright orange bottle, and it says right on the label how many skins you can expect to get out of one bottle. I guess they've changed the product a bit, because I looked it up on the Cabela's website, and according to the description there, you can expect to do 2 medium-sized fur skins, or one deer out of one bottle. I thought you could do more than that.

I was looking at the Indian tanning solution but I was wondering just how many hides it tans per a mix. The product says as many as you can until it gets dirty. Any idea?

-If you are serious about a high-quality final product, but have never done it yourself, it might be better to send your furs to a professional tannery, such as USA Foxx & Furs, or Moyle Mink. It's not cheap, but they come out very nice.
-If you really want to do it yourself, be advised by someone who has tried their hand at it several times, with varying degrees of success :-/, that it's easy to tan a hide, but it's hard to do it well.
-I've had personal experience with Pro's Tanning Formula, and Indian Hide Tanning Formula, and of the two, I would recommend the Indian, it seems to do a slightly better job. There may be other (better) solutions out there, but I haven't used them.

What is the best tanning solution to use on raccoon, Coyote, and possibly deer? I have trapped for a while but never actually tanned the hides myself. I was wondering if there is one thats better than another. Thanks, HollisTags: None
