I have never had any luck shed hunting. I have gone every spring for 4 years and never found anything. Yesterday 2 other guys and I hiked up and down some mountain property in NC that I have permission to hunt. We found nothing. We saw some deer but found no sheds. Its very discouraging! Do yall have any tips on what I can do to find more sheds?

if you have porcupines in NC say thanks to them. they love the minerals in the sheds and they eat them. and also if the deer herd around there migrates at all they probably shed in the deer yards.

The key to finding sheds is to walk slowly. If you have kids, bring them along and spread out. While walking deer trails, look for fallen trees and obstacles that the deer need to jump over. A lot of times the jump will jar them loose and you'll find them lying near by. Check along fence lines where they would jump over the fence. Same thing here. You'll find them lying near by. I have pretty good luck near bedding areas too. The real key though is move s l o w l y while looking. If you don't find any, well you just enjoyed another great day in the woods. Good luck.

I have found them around trees, (pecan trees, in particular, why I don't know, they weren't in season) where the branches hung down to where the deer might bump into them with their antlers and knock them off if they're loose.

Squirrels and chipmunks as well as other animals love them. So they don't last long.

A friend of mine got a shed dog. Its a lab that was specifically trained to find sheds. I think he bought it from a kennel in Wyoming or Montana. I forget which state. Not that I'm saying buy a dog for that purpose.
