It seems that rational thought that people put into answers gets voted down simply because a person doesn't agree. If the answer is thoughtless or irrelevant or to the point of insulting, then a vote down should be issued. I agree JM,if you feel differently as to what someone has said, write as to why you feel that way instead of just voting down and running away; a good discussion is better than no discussion.

@DSM,
Yeah, someone has been doing it to me pretty much all year, but once it started happening to others I felt like something needed to be said.
-Like I already said, the only person it effects is the person asking the question. If you think giving a -1 to someone to take away their points is going to bother them than you have a problem.

I couldn’t agree more with all of you. The unwarranted negatives put me off of this site for quite some time. I have gradually come back and hate to see it still going on. When you give a positive, it adds 10 points to your total. Maybe giving a negative should take 10 away. If I feel strongly enough to vote someone down, I would gladly lose 10 for my choice to do so. I have a great deal of respect for many on this site and I find it very frustrating to see a rational comment get a negative for no stated reason.

I totally agree with you JM, and while I personally don't care much about how many points/stars I have, it's still annoying when some idiot -1s one of my comments for no reason, because then whoever I'm trying to help might dismiss my advice just because it has a low rating. I for one think OL should do away with -1s altogether.
