Any one have any luck early season deer hunting?

Arrowed a doe last Sunday. 12 yard shot, and she only ran about 20 yards(uphill). Butchered it all out this morning since I didn't have work. Good feeling having venison in the freezer again.

-That's right! I remember you saying last week that the youth season was coming up for you. Did you end up trying to do any calling/rattling? Was this the only weekend of the youth hunt, or will there be another weekend later in the year/early next year? Have you been successful in previous youth hunts?
-And hey, seeing three deer in a weekend isn't bad at all, and I know exactly what you mean when you say that you did not have any shots. A few years back after a hard snow we did not see ANY deer for more than a week, and hardly any tracks in the snow(not seeing any tracks after a fresh snow is one of the most disheartening things ever). The three biggest deer(antler wise) I have seen in my life were within 50 yards of me but I was unable to get a shot, one was within 20 yards but it was so foggy I only saw him for about 2 seconds. The worst of them all though was the biggest I have ever seen: There was a group of three deer that busted me and ran off(I made a noise and they jumped out of their beds). One deer came to a stop around 150 yards away, and I had the sights right on it(perfectly broadside) but the head was behind a tree so I decided not to shoot. He took one step and I saw the antlers, but he was behind another tree and gone before I could get a shot off.

Oh thats rough man. I ended up grunting some, but I didn't rattle much.
And, unfortunatly, the youth hunts only a 2 day gig. But bow season starts next Monday so hopefuly I will be healthy enough to go out, as I dislocated my shoulder last Friday night in our football game.

Haha that's funny(not really)...I dislocated my left shoulder last month(I'm left handed). It took about a month for me to be able to get back to shooting like before I dislocated it(Luckily it happened a month before archery season). Good luck on the injury healing quickly.

Well I went to the doctor this afternoon and it's coming along well. I am going to get a brace that will allow me to play football next week. But its still pretty sore, so I'm not sure about when I'll be able to start bow hunting. Hopefully sooner than later.

But luckily it's my left arm and I'm right handed.

Eastern Ontario bow season opens Oct 1....after a decline in the deer popualtion over the past couple of years...looks like the young deer numbers are on the rise ..as evidence by trail cams and pre season scouting our anterless tags have been slightly increased.
