I'm excited to see what is going to happen once the acorns start falling. Until then the deer will just be on the move looking for food that has survived the drought. I do not think weight will be much of a problem though, deer are pretty good at managing their weight.

For the most part yes for both questions. The deer just like every other living thing will change habits based on food and water. If your in a severely drought stricken area alls you need to look for is water with a food source close. In the extreme heat we have had they are just like humans they wont do anything they don't have to and will find the coolest area to rest until evening. I would look for a stream in a forest or highly shaded area, if you find one of those you are golden for early season.

-It'll definitely affect their habits, since deer normally get a portion of their hydration just from eating juicy vegetation, and in a drought like this, even the vegetation that's still alive is pretty dry. So if you can find a waterhole or creek that's still wet, it could be dynamite.
-As far as the size of their bodies/racks is concerned, I don't think that's a big deal, unless you're in an area with literally no available water, and even in a drought of this magnitude, that's not common. Food isn't a big concern either, most places.
The time when we really need to worry about food for the deer is this winter, if the drought persists like it's supposed to.

It will condense movements to Avalible water sources to all deer in the area. try getting out to an area scarce with water whnes theres water and find where there good water now, check for deer sign you never know. I dont know about size.

There are long term concerns also. If it stays dry it can effect fawn production next spring and their ability to over winter. You've got good tips above. The acorn crop seems to be okay this year but if the drought continues then there won't be many next year.
