I have seen a number of should have been 6 or 8 pointers this year with one side broken off at the base of the skull. I am wondering if this will have any effect on how that side will look/grow next year?

No, a break will not effect the next set of antlers the deer grows.

No, it won't, unless it actually breaks far enough down to remove some of the skull, then it might. That's not very common though, I've only found one or two antlers with that much bone attached to the base.

sounds like an older buck is giving lessons, unless cars are causing it, then you could tell from older bucks whats already visible
