the 7600 and the 336 are my two main options but im looking at about 400 to 450 $ price range is there any other recomendations i live in vermont and do a combination of hunting in a combination of diffrent places some times in brush sometimes in wide open feilds. anyway if you guys have any guns to reccomend caliber to that would be great

You probably can find a used Remington 760 or 7600 for under $400 and this gun in of its calibers (243, 308, 270 and 30-06) would give you a lot more range for the wide open fields than the Marlin 336 in any of its calibers.

For the brush, the pump is faster than the lever.

Please, read my blog at http://awildbeastatheart.blogspot.com

It will probably be difficult, but if you can find a used Marlin in their relatively new 308 express, you could cover all aspects (brush and field).

If you keep you eyes open you will find one in that $ range on the used rack, you can't go wrong with the 30-06, and being a carbine it will swing great in the brush and still shoot flat for the fields. With the huge selection of bullet weights to pick from, it will do just about anything you need it to. I just bought a 7600 carbine with a cheep scope on it off the used rack for $ 500.00.

The Marlin 308 Exp and the 450M are Top Pick in Leaver Guns all in the $400.00 Used Range.
