Here in MN I always give the deer to the person who initially wounded the deer even if it ran onto my personal property. But if that person doesn't show up in 2-3 hours to claim the deer and I finally downed it with a shot, it is mine. I am not going to let that deer go to waste.

I usually don't trek very far,
when all around me black bears are.
Hi...
We're not hearing the WHOLE story. What happened...or what DIDN'T happen to make you think that you didn't take that deer?
Does your dad have access to this forum?
I'd recommend that you get your FACTS straight before anything else is said on the matter.
If you can CONFIRM that the deer wasn't yours, then you should consider discreetly telling your dad.

I would speak honestly about it with your father, and then never mention it to anyone else again.Tagging a big game animal that has been shot by another hunter is ILLEGIAL in most areas and may land you into a situation where you could possibly lose your rights to hunt for up to 5 years and even jail time(depending on where you are).

We need to hear the story before we can help but honesty is the best policy.

Just tell the truth. Cant go wrong there. I too would like to know why you do not think this is your deer.

Tell him honestly and simply. I'd like to hear the story behind this one.
