Yes, a 25/06 is a good deer gun for a first time hunter. I shot my first deer with my 25/06 when I was 10 years old. A Tika is a great brand for a 25/06. It shoots flat and has some recoil, but not to bad.

In my opinion it would be a fine first gun for a 13 year old.

No matter what caliber rifle you buy or shoot it will have some recoil, no the 25-06 does not kick bad at all, yes it is one great caliber to hunt with and it will take anything down a 270 can. You need to get out to the range and try shooting a few different guns and see what fits you and what kind of recoil you are ok with. Any one you talk to has a favorite caliber, they are all good, and if you shoot a gun that fits you poorly you won't shoot it as good as one that does. Think about your size and build maybe look into the rifles that come with spacers for the stock so it can grow with you or a few have rifles with youth stocks and come with full size stocks also. Good luck.

Im guessing what is scaring you about the 25-06 is the kick, and in my opinion you should have no problem shooting it. Personally I would buy a .270 if I were you, hardly any more kick than the 25.06 but much more power(I would feel comfortable hunting anything in North America with a .270).

I've never owned this caliber, but I hear lots of good things about it. Sounds like it's an excellent deer cartridge and it doesn't kick too much. Unless you are very slightly built, it would be a good gun to grow with. I think it's better than the .243.
