Does chewing gum while hunting scare the deer?

  • #2
If they smell it then yeah I suppose it may scare them. Depends on the particular deer, if the deer doesn't think it's a threat than they wont be afraid, if the smell makes them nervous then they will bolt. Personally I wouldnt be afraid to chew gum, I chew on gum/beef jerky all the time when hunting.

      Why would you think that?
Or maybe I should ask exactly how are you chewing on the gum?

I have heard this about chewing tobacco also. I've never scared a deer because of this and I always chew while hunting.

If you are just chewing it normally I wouldn't think it would be a pproblem. I chew gum when deer hunting every once in a while.

I would think the only way it would scare them is if you were popping bubbles.

I chew doe in heat flavored bubble gum to attract the bucks. They also make a skunk flavor cover gum you might try.

try to get ready when you see deer approaching, sounds like your letting them get too close,I try to shoot before they get within an arms length away, good luck
