Yikes.....time for damage control.....drop to the ground and wait perhaps if the deer has not locked on to you it might be curious.....try a soft grunt call perhaps in a minute or two

it is a damage control thing at this point....other deer might be alerted....just hold your ground maybe you can save the hunt

I have grunted in smaller bucks with a dominant buck grunt when this happened but never anything good or any ancient wise does either

Assuming the deer has not seen me and the wind or thermal currents are cooperating; Slide into a shadow and answer with the same snort or wheeze. Get ready many times the deer stiff legs in if not I move back the way I came sounding like a deer walking occasionally repeating the snort / wheeze then setup as I would for a turkey. About 30% of the time the deer comes in offering an easy shot.

I have flagged in elk, caribou, antelope and once a bear but never tried it on a deer.

Charlie, The white hankie mimics the flicking tail of a whitetail telling the herd that all is well. Works great. Have been charged by rutting bucks while doing this.

I liked CHARLIE ELKS answer as well as ISHI'S,YES,REPEATING the deer blows has turned dissapointment into second chances,also if I don;t have a white hanky available I'LL hold my hand down and flick my wrist.WHILE still hunting and moving tree to tree/I take a small stick or a piece of tree chip and rub on tree out of sight from the direction of deer blows.Allow enough time and the deer sometimes get curious and come in for a closer look. LOL DECOY IS RIGHT,DAMAGE CONTROL .THANKS GUYS

Well Ishi I am sure a deer will snort at me sometime this season so I'll get a chance to try a white hankie on em.
