Hey everybody, I am an avid .410 shotgun hunter and I was wondering if you could shoot a .410 handgun round through a .410 shotgun. its just something my father suggested and I am wondering if it is safe and if it would give me a greater distance and knock down power over a .410 slug.

I'm sure you could, although I think any improvement in ballistics from a 410 revolver would be small.

I just read an article about S&W's .410 handgun. The author mentioned not using .410 shotgun slugs through the revolver, because it can jam up the cylinder plus extraction can be hard. Don't hold me to it, but I would imagine it would be okay to shoot a .410 handgun round through a shotgun.
S&W's new handgun can shoot .410 loads, .45ACP (with half-round moon clips), and .45 Colt rounds.

The only problem that might be of concern would be if your shot gun has choke tubes you can remove. You should consult an ammo manufacture and the manufacture of your shot gun to make sure.

Well, both the Taurus Judge and the H&R Survivor shotgun are advertised as taking either .410 shot shells or .45 Colt pistol ammo, so I would think that you could safely shoot the .45 through any other modern .410 shotgun as well, as long as there are no choke tubes in the barrel.

thanks everyone. i will keep all the comments in mind. just so yall know its a single shot break action with no choke tubes so its a very basic setup.

Good question. My gunsmith says no. If the 410 choke is open cylinder there is no particular danger it just will not be as accurate as a slug due the lack of a wad pushing and aligning the lead as it moves down the barrel. His summary is why bother? The handgun ammo is made for very short range relying on barrel rifling for stability.
