  • You are sighting in a scope and hit the target 2" low and 1" to the left. Do you bring the cross hairs to the bullet hole (down

You are sighting in a scope and hit the target 2" low and 1" to the left. Do you bring the cross hairs to the bullet hole (down 8 clicks and left 4 clicks) or do you bring the bullet up to the cross hairs (up 8 clicks and right 4 clicks) assume MOA of 1/4" @ 100 yards? Not all scope manufactures provide instructions on how to sight in a scope. They just show the adjustment knobs. Is this standardized or does it vary by scope manufacture?

your not going to change where the rifle is striking by moving the scope,so adjust scope to where the bullet hits.

Some scopes are 1/8"@ 100 yds some area 1/4"@ 100 yds. Most higher power scopes are 1/8, say for example 6-18 or more, if you have a 3-9 or 4-12 it should be 1/4. But you could contact the manufacture to be sure. If you are shooting 2" low and 1" left from a solid rest adjust the settings 8 clicks up and 4 clicks right and see where you hit if its in the 10 ring the scope is 1/4 if its half way there its 1/8 and go from there.

You must have a cheep scope if there are NO markings for 1/4"on the turit, if so buy you a Redfield scope 3-9x40, Adj your scope to shoot to center of target..but make all screws on rifle and scope are tight! you make no refence to brand of scope or gun/cal?

The cal and scope mfg do not apply to the question. The scope is fixed 1/4" at 100. There is an up arrow on the top knob for vertical adjustment and a left arrow on the side knob for left and right adjustment. Same question still applies, do you bring the cross hairs to the bullet hole or do you bring the bullet hole to the cross hairs. 25-06guy and 6phunter offer different theories. 25-06 guy has one bring the bullet up and right. 6phunter has you bring the scope down and left. See the issue?

25-06 guy is correct, 8 up and 4 right. You are moving the point of impact to the intersection of the crosshairs.
