Has anYone ever called in a eastern turkey A couple hours or less before it gets dark out? How close to sunset do they start to fly to their roost?

I've never had much luck calling in an eastern late in the day, though I think I have influenced the line of travel on the way to the roost a couple of times. The time they fly up can vary, but is usually around or just after sunset. I've seen them fly up earlier, but they tend to change positions a lot when they do that.

Ya. I don't know if it's just me or what, but I have never had much luck calling in a turkey in the evening. They will talk to me, but that's about it. I think they have 2 things in mind that late in the day, feeding and heading for the roost. Anymore I will just talk to them in the evening to locate their roost and surprise them in the morning.
