Schuler, Yes they interbreed. A mule deer is a blacktail & whitetail mix. This is the reason mule deer are located in the central west of the USA.

My question is, a couple of years ago I shot what appeared to be at 200 yds. a whitetail deer. It had a typical 6 X 5 frame with the G2's each having a fork making it a 13 point. It had a whitetail tail and ears but it's color was a dark grey resembling a mule deer and it was the only whitetail in this herd of 12-14 mule deer. Is interbreeding among species a possibility with this? If so how common is this?
