This is difficult to answer because I'm not entirely sure why they do say that. However, a hunters safest bet is to just hunt the stand that has the right wind for your location. Obviously you wouldnt hunt a stand that has a wind at your back blowing right into their bedding area. So your safest bet would be just have good scent control and play the wind at a particular stand to your advantage. Goodluck this season.

Try to hunt where you enter your stand with the wind in your face. this pushes your scent away from your hunting area as Foxhunter said. You dont want your scent blowing where the deer may be, they'll go the other way. It doesn't matter which way the wind is blowing just don't let your scent blow into the deer woods. I have stands set up to hunt different winds, if the wind is wrong I'll go to a stand for the wind of the day. Good luck!
