Here in Montana's Milk River country, most of our whitetails have shed their antlers. In fact, I found my first shed the first week of January. I'm still seeing a couple of older bucks with headgear. We've had so much snow that I haven't been in mule deer country for over a month, but I'm guessing that they're starting to shed, too. Just a blanket caution for anybody hunting sheds where deer are so stressed by winter: give them a break. The last thing these challenged deer need is somebody spooking them and causing them to get even more run down.
