    Greg, I experienced much the same thing. The deer are still there, but they're now in cover. Bucks in velvet tend to stay in the open - they don't want to bruise their soft, tender antlers. That's why they're so visible. But once the velvet comes off they get pretty elusive again, plus those larger bachelor groups start to split up.

      WHEN BUCK groups break up , some will travel miles to thier own individual core ares,button bucks tend to roam until they find a place safe from older bucks.SO never be suprised to find these bucks after a few years of being invisible to suddenly appear .I'ts a fair trade off as bucks from other ares will show up that you never sen before, keeps you guessing and adds to the supense of the hunt.
