I still hunt Whitetail deer every year wearing a heavy weight vintage red and black plaid Woolrich coat and pants that I have had for decades. I also wear an Blaze orange hat and gloves just for safty. I never see anyone else in the woods with a Woolrich suit any more. Most of my time (90%)is spent sitting in subfreezing temperatures and I find wearing this is my best chance of staying warm. My son thinks I'm just old fashoned and a bit to nastalgic, Maybe I am what do you think?

I hunt Antelope and Deer here in western SD from mid October to late November and finish my winter calling Coyotes; I’m dressed in wool from head to toe whenever I’m out. I do hike into my spot wearing a light fleece jacket, but my L.L. Bean wool coat is in my pack to wear once I get to my location. I wear an L.L. Bean wool shirt with underarmor under it and Woolrich wool pants over poly pro long johns. With that combination I can ignore the cold, sleet, and wind as long as I have my layers on; it’s a great feeling to watch the frost form on my body during deer season and only feel warmth. Another great thing I have experienced with my wool shirt and pants (85/15 blend) is that I can machine wash them in the “cool” setting and tumble dry them on low; they have never shrunk in size. Does anyone have any recommendations for wool socks? I use SmartWool socks while they are very comfortable to hike in year round; they aren’t as warm as I would like them to be. Wool is quiet and warm even when wet and doesn’t get stiff with the cold like some outer shells do.

well one reason you don't see others is if they wearing something besides wool they have headed to the house.unlike you i didn't enjoy wool in early years, too itchy and bulky.now days when the temps drop way down and i'm heading out, i make sure to have wool garments as part of my attire,
