I already have a .44 Mag and have been shooting that caliber for 35 years. It is not a bad choice unless you thing you are going to tangle with an Alaskan Brown bear.I don't think that I would want to trust a 3/4 oz chunk of metal moving at just over 1000 fps against a critter that can weigh upwards of half a ton. I don't have much respect for the Desert Eagle in this situation. Rather than a .500, I would choose a .460 S&W; it is the same size as the .500, has a better range and is more versatile as far as usefulness in those kinds of situations.
But hey, that is just me.
