    Crabwearer... your welcome.
The Sierra GameKing, .224 dia., 65 grain spitzer boat tail came out in 2004. Let me know how you make out with the bullet loading and hunting, perhaps we can post a thread on that bullet :-)
I'm going to use that .224 bullet in my AR-15 to hunt whitetail deer.
My state, New York, allows hunting with this caliber.
I usually deer hunt using the .270 Winchester caliber.

Kody, there are several states which allow the .223. I was surprised,(Oklahoma is one) but I know people who swear by it.
    Who'd a thunk it?

Kody - I've read all the applicable game laws and it's allowed where I hunt/live. I know the .223 is gaining popularity for smaller deer (smaller whitetails/blacktails). I wouldn't use it on anything bigger than a whitetail personally, but my other option right now is my .300 Win Mag which I think is too much for the 80-120 lb deer in eastern NC. I would be aiming for the heart/lungs but if the shot isn't there I won't force it. If I can get good accuracy out of the round I'll try for the head if the heart/lungs aren't available.
Johnnie - Thanks for the heads up on the Sierra, I'll start looking into it and for loads using it.

I see other posts regarding deer hunting using a .223 which surprises me. Some hunting jurisdictions do not allow big game hunting with this small a cartridge. It is not sometning that I I have considered doing. Is this a common practice or is it limited to hunting smaller animals like Blacktail deer? Sorry for answering your question with a question, but what is your vital target on deer using this rifle.. head, neck , lungs?

Sorry about the double post, I can't seem to delete the other one. One bit of clarification, by max range I mean the max range I will take a shot at, not the max ballistic range of the round.
