If a deer notices me in my tree stand and doesn't really spook, but just notices that something isn't right and moves off. How long will it remember that encounter? Have I blown my stand placement, or will that deer eventually forget what happened.

That's a great question--I have had the misfortune of spooking a deer a couple of times just like you described.Have you blown you stand placement---no--have you blown it with the deer--maybe.I work on the principle that this individual deer has one mark against you- it really not much different than shooting an arrow and missing spooking the deer big time.To error on the side of caution;I would try a different location if this is a once in a lifetime buck.Animals be it dogs-cows and yes deer imprint on their environment and react accordingly. There will be other opportunities on other deer from your stand as the season progresses.
