If a deer notices me in my tree stand and doesn't really spook, but just notices that something isn't right and moves off. How long will it remember that encounter? Have I blown my stand placement, or will that deer eventually forget what happened.

That's a great question--I have had the misfortune of spooking a deer a couple of times just like you described.Have you blown you stand placement---no--have you blown it with the deer--maybe.I work on the principle that this individual deer has one mark against you- it really not much different than shooting an arrow and missing spooking the deer big time.To error on the side of caution;I would try a different location if this is a once in a lifetime buck.Animals be it dogs-cows and yes deer imprint on their environment and react accordingly. There will be other opportunities on other deer from your stand as the season progresses.

In my experience that big buck will probably remember but a doe will most likely forget after some time.

Scare a deer once and expect it to be gone a day or two. Scare a deer twice and they may be gone for a week. After a 3rd time a deer may change it's pattern completely to avoid your location altogether.
