I've been thinking about starting a food plot but I'm not sure what to think. I've heard a lot about how food plots are guaranteed to attract HUGE deer all day long. Is it realy that easy? Do you have any suggestion on what to plant or any other tips?

some guys i work with plant buck wheat and turnip greens but it takes a few seasons for the deer to start coming around. From what they say it works but i haven't personally done it

No! It is not that easy. Unless there is virtually no hunting pressure on a food plot, the big deer will generally give a pass except late at night. Occasionally a big budk will follow a hot doe in, but not on a regular basis. There is no magic plant that will make the deer go crazy over it, but they will eat small grains such as oats, wheat and some rye. Other choices are brassicas such as turnips or rape. Clover is a great choice. What you plant depends on what part of the country you live in. Don't be taken in by bags of seed mixes with pictures of big bucks on the bag. Contact your county extension agent on what grows well where you live. Check your soil ph, lime as necessary, don't skimp on the fertilizer and use selective herbicide. Good luck.
