What is the best foodplot seed in your opion?

There are a variety of choices for food plot initiatives-choices can reflect-grasses/clover/legumes(trefoil and alfalfa)--or soybeans and corn.A soil test of your chosen site can identify any shortcomings in the inherit location and can help determine which seed choices will work best.A consideration of deer density in your area is important as a smaller plot can be completely wiped out by high deer numbers.Alfalfa and trefoil have the distinction of being able to reduce fertilizer costs by securing their own nitrogen and late into the season there will be dry plant material available that will be of 8% protein-the plants stand well even with a light snow cover-many deer will still be able to graze on leaves that are still attached and upright due to the stem strength.Corn and soybeans will be more expensive corn being again preferred for it's ability to stand late into the year and provide a very sought after food source. As a rule of thumb 3 acre food plot-expect damage or visits from turkeys -porcupines-raccoons-birds etc. as once the plot is established all animals will stop by for a meal. One suggestion I always offer is-- if you have available land try to lease some to a local farmer-establish crop type and make allowances for leaving some of the crop standing 2-3% after harvest--this will defer costs of establishing a food plot and the lease can also generate annual cash for rent of the land.My pick would be a corn alfalfa/trefoil combination as it will perform basically as a early to late season food source.

All things considered, cost, effort, hardiness, etc., I would go with cowpeas for the summer and an oat/clover mix for the fall and winter, depending on your latitude.
