How many yards do you place a deer decoy from your treestand, in the woods or in a field? I long to you put it out before you use your stand, so that your scent has been eliminated.

I like to put a decoy between 20 and 30 yards upwind of my stand location. This can vary from stand to stand depending on shooting lanes. I never put a decoy out before I am going to hunt a certain stand. I spray it down real good before entering to my stand and then once the decoy is placed where I want it I use field wipes just to make sure I haven't left any scent on the decoy from me on the way in. Some people use and actual decoy that comes with a scent free bag to carry it in, but I use my 3-d target deer and have had fairly good luck with it.

Treestand, I don't know of anyone using a deer decoy in Alabama. Apparently it's legal. Do you use one?

I'll do more research and possibly get back to this subject with a new question.
