This is more like a continuation of my previous .300 Weatherby thread but it has more to do with the scope than the cartridge so I figured I'd start a new one.
Can anyone let me know what the typical yardage for taking an elk is? It would be a self-guided hunt so I most likely wouldn't get as close as I would with a guide. However it'll save around $5,000 so I think I'll take that chance.
This all boiling down to what magnification do you guys think I should get? I figured something like a 6-24. Something long range, but can be used if one stumbled up on me. I also need it to be a deer scope so it can't be a dedicated long range scope.
Any suggestions about scope for elk hunting?
