I haven't tried them or even considered them but I don't see any reason they wouldn't do a good job of it.

Just be sure your extra-full choke can handle the velocity of the steel. I have a Hevishot extra-full choke and according to the company, it can handle steel shot as long as the velocity is below 1600fps. However I would be concerned that the edges on the hexside would be really hard on the choke.
