I plan on buying a Labrador Retriever soon. I see ads for American and British labs. What is the differences between them and how do they hunt differently?

I plan on buying a Labrador Retriever soon. I see ads for American and British labs. What is the differences between them and

British labs are said to be shorter, stockier and more to "show standards". American labs are said to be taller and more lanky and bred more for "field standards". Some say you can expect different personalities and temperment depending on the breed, but I wouldn't bet the farm on that. Every lab is different, but they are all great dogs. As long as I'm breathing, I'll always have at least one.
