I was wondering what's out there about using a Newfoundland Retriever for a duck dog?

From what I've read, if you want a really big, web-footed, easy-going retriever that drools and sheds, a Newfie is perfect. They say they're smart and easy to train and are direct ancestors of labs, so there shouldn't be any trouble getting one to retrieve ducks, but it may be a problem getting one back in the boat due to size---of course they are strong enough swimmers to tow the boat if needed.

      Hello Ben
It could work! Try to pick the dog in the litter that is eager to retrieve. Some dogs don't have much interest in retrieving socks or sticks let alone a struggling Canada Goose from the water. It would be very cool to see a big Newfie dog bring in a bird. I wish you luck. Expect that wet dog smell on the return trip. Your car will likely never be the same. I say if that dog succeeds bring him to the front seat.
