I had a Tom go through my back field consisting of 2 acers. I ran out set up my decoy and I know he didn't see me. I called he came in but would not come any closer than forty yards from my decoy. Why is that?

like what pineywoods siad he was waiting for the hen to come to him....the reason toms gobble is so the hen can find him and come to him...the hunters objective is to reverse that and have him come to you...so somtimes haveing it behind you will work ...but if he hangs up like what your saying i would suggest not useing what at all and just call softly like a lost hen
