During Youth Spring turkey season, I set up my decoys about 50 yards from a roosting tree I had scouted out the day before. The turkeys flew down, went behind us, crossed the road, and into an open field. It was raining very hard. Does the weather have anything to do with that?

Weather is just one of the many things that could have caused that reaction. It is possible that the birds knew you were there. Another reason could be that the rain was making so much noise that they were afraid to call and just all around nervous about not being able to hear very well so they went into the field to use their vision as their maine defense. Your decoys may have also scared them. Those are just some of the things that might have happened.
Good luck, hope you get one. I have to wait untill the 23rd before our youth season comes in.

The one thing to remember that not all presentations will work everytime....calling....decoys....it is not uncommon for birds to leave the roost...and with the inertia of the breeding season first and foremost.... some pre-morning agenda may be in the mix of things. The big thing to remember is something can and will happen -anytime- anyplace- during the spring season.

The three awnsers so far are all good possibility's but i would say that smitty18 is correct several times I have observed turkeys in tw weather conditions when they acted like you described often it was when it was windy but several times I have seen it happen in the rain the turkeys like smitty said probably were just moving to where they felt they were the safest
