I have a Mossberg 935 semi auto 12 gauge, 22" overbored turkey barrel that uses the UltiFull turkey choke made by Mossberg. I have yet to pattern the gun. The choke tube is for use with lead shot only....does this mean that copper plated lead will damage the choke tube...obviously I was not planning on shooting steel shot through it but am having a hard time finding lead shot that is not copperplated. Will the copper plating damage the choke tube and if it will can anyone recommend some good lead turkey loads ...I would like to be shooting 3 or 3.5 inch shells (3.5 preferably) in #4 or #5 shot.

It is fine to shoot copper or nickel plated lead shot with your choke.

Any suggestions for turkey loads? In the past I have used 3" Winchester Supreme #4...They shot pretty good out of my Remington 870 with a Truglo choke tube. I would like to move up to 3.5" shells which is the reason I bought the gun. I have never shot Remington or Federal Turkey Loads....Do they offer anything worth trying?

My advice would be to hurry and buy an aftermarket choke that will handle the heavier than lead shot such as Federal Heavyweight and Hevi Shot. You will increase the range of your gun at least 10 yards and greatly increase your pattern density and knockdown power. Good hunting.

I forgot to mention that you may want to consider #6 shot in the high density shot since you can get the same effect with them that you can with #4 lead shot and have a lot more pellets out there. They can be expensive, but how many shots do you get at turkeys? Definitely worth it.

Price is not a concern (I am 23, unmarried, have a good job and still live with my parents). I will consider getting another after market choke. I have heard good things about the denser loads but have never tried them. I have used the "Undertaker" and "Jelly Head" choke tubes in the past, anything else out there that will give me some better results?

I tried a few with my Mossberg 835 and found that the Carlson turkey choke tube worked best with the
Federal Heavyweight shot I was using. Hevi Shot makes a choke tube and it would be logical that it would work well with their Hevi Shot. Other makers are H S Strut and MAD---go to Cabelas' site and search "turkey chokes". They have a good selection. It took some time and money to find the right combination, but it gives me great peace of mind to know that if that gobbler hangs up 50-55 yards out there, I can roll him. Haven't lost one yet.

pineywood's advice is sound. Something that is overlooked with the use of the heavy shots are 7-1/2 shot if legal in your state. These work very well in my Remington 1100 with Truglo choke. They are really advantageous later in the spring when the leaf cover is thicker.

I use Undertaker chokes in both my remington 11-87 and 870. I generally use number 5 or 6 shot. Copper plated in 3 inch gives me 50 yard kill patterns.
