So far this turkey season the birds have been real quiet. I have read many times to determine your calling strategy to "take the birds temperature". How do you do this?

Another good tactic for silent turkeys is to rely on your scouting and set up in known strut zones. Put your decoy out in the strut zone and call periodically, but don't overdo it. If youv'e done your homework this can be very effective. Another factor, as it is my area here in Missouri, could be that your area has experienced a few bad hatches recently and you may be dealing with older, less vocal birds. Try a jake decoy and challenge their dominance.
