I have grown as a kid hearing that a gobbler will not come down a mountain to your calling. Is this true? Also if one of the gobblers spur breaks off does it grow back?

Turkeys do in fact come down hills and mountains. If they did not they all be easy to find at the top. ;-)
For years I believed this piece of "sage" advice only to find it wrong. Since then I have called many turkeys down. As a matter of fact I usually prefer to approach from the bottom in the morning rather than from the top.
Spurs do grow back if broken off. They never stop growing it is wear that keeps them from too big.

Charlie, thanks for the info on spurs, and you're right about the downhill calling. I'm pretty sure I've killed more calling them level to down than up, and yes, they will come across a hollow, too. Hope your season gets off to a better start than mine.

I watched my 5 year old niece call a tom across a hollow and road and then up a hill just playing with my slate call!!! I told my sister I am definitely taking her turkey huntin with me!!!
