How do you know if the turkeys you're hunting are scared of your strutting jake decoy?

if your bird is coming in hot, gobbling and strutting then see's the decoy and suddenly breaks out of strut and starts to move away nervously that would be a good bet. try setting up on the same bird with a non strutting jake or just a hen decoy and see if that makes a difference. good luck

I would not use the word"scared"--in the field it is the presentation through calling/decoys that we all hope leads to a bird committing. Some birds are more receptive and some just seem to be focused on another point--more a derivative of the inertia of a the breeding season than anything else.Since we do not have a window on the underlying turkey politics of hierarchy within the landscape of an area we are hunting this may be a contributing factor.Perhaps your strutting jake decoy is not an issue with the local boss or there may be more pressing tasks that need attention.
