Go out to a place where you can hear sounds very well. Listen for; wing beats, gobbler yelps and of course a gobble. Sometimes right at sunset when you blow a locater call they will shock gobble.
At least this is what the "book" says and sometimes it actually works.
Another option:
Go to a known roosting location about 2 hours before sunset. Set up 150 yards or so away from the area ideally with a quiet retreat route at your back in order to get out after dark without spooking your bird. Make some hen yelps and end with fly up cackles. If it is legal to hunt in your state at this time take your gun you may get a shot. If not don't move and let the gobbler roost you should be close enough to know the exact tree he picks at dark fall.
Many times the gobbler will gravitate and roost in the area he hears a hen. He may do it silently and you may or may not hear his wings as he goes up to roost. No matter leave quietly after dark and start your hunt in this area the next morning. In a good turkey area more often than not there will be a gobbler nearby come morning.
good luck.
later,
charlie
