I expect the snow will be gone well before opening day and there will be a big change in range and behavior between now and then, anyhow.

Two feet of snow can make it difficult to trek about for some scouting--snowshoes could help and field glasses to cover some extended distances.Hopefully warm spring sunshine will deflate the snow pack.Snow need not to be considered a hindrance--it is a great way to help determine density of birds in a given area.As the inertia of the breeding season unfolds and birds disband it can be viewed as a start and and ending point.Large groups of birds are marked as female/2009 offspring and smaller groups as male-the snow will hopefully yield some clues as to the number of male birds in the area.Try and view the snow as an advantage-soft spring snow leaves a very detailed blueprint of all activity within a given area.As the bird groups do break apart-be aware that many can range out some significant distances.
