I have recently started hunting some new land. People that live near the land report never seeing turkey on or near the land. The land seems perfect for turkeys with some hardwoods, some softwoods, open fields and water sources. Can you tell me why there might not be turkeys on this land or what I can do to introduce turkeys to the area?

The National Wild Turkey Federation has information available about developing habitat for wild turkeys.I would scout around a bit and make your own decisions about whether or not turkeys are present.I do not know if you have any significant snowfall where you live--but after a light snowfall you will be able to make a quick determination on activity. As the autumn season is at hand you should be able to locate other tell-tale signs within your new area; turkeys are now divided into male (smaller groups) and female( larger groups) for the winter.Lots of birds together leave lots of sign.Yes they will disperse in the spring as hens seek out potential nesting sites and the breeding season unfolds.

Predator's can eliminate turkeys in an area as well.
