Coy-dogs are coyote/dog crosses. However, where you are there are coyotes with wolf genes (Eastern Coyotes). These get bigger than their western cousins. As with many species, there is a lot of genetic variation from east to west and vice versa. In biology, terms like transition, intergrades, sub-species, races, are used to describe changes in pheno- and genotypes.
