I use a 20 guage single shot Winchester & it works great if you should only need one shot.

i love my 20 ga mossberg 500 pump. It comes with three chokes (full, ic and mod.) and has never jammed on me. A great gun.

20 gauge is the better shotgun choice. I use a double with mod & full choke. You can select the right choke for the distant. Also, if you are in an area with game birds you are equipped to take advantage of the additional opportunities presented.
If fall turkeys are legal in your area get the license, carry a turkey call and a 3" mag to slip into the full choke barrel. I have taken a few turkeys in the fall this way. My favorite turkey call in the fall is the wingbone.

"---possibly eat the squirrels". What's the point in killing squirrel unless you're going to eat them?
The 20 ga. is an excellent choice, just don't shoot them at close range.

I like my 22lr after the leaves are off of the trees, but in August and September you just can't beat a good shotgun. I'm partial to either my pump twenty or my SxS twenty. A good single shot is always handy. The twenty guage will give you better performance, as it holds more shot and powder. Like Bo said, it would be alot more versatile too.

I am partial to the 20 gauge, because it is so versatile. It is a good squirrel gun if you use small shot, same with dove and quail. Use bigger shot and it's great for rabbit or pheasant. But that's just me.
I love my 20 ga Mossberg 500.

$12.00 a box but i get them at a discount that's why price doesn't really matter I am more corious about performance

maybe a 28gauge would be a good comprimise.I see a lot of hunters on this site saying that .410 ammo is expensive where they hunt.Whats a box of .410 birdshot costing these days?.Around here they are $15 a box 3" mag.

I am going squirrel hunting this year and I already have a reliable 22LR. I would also like to have a shot gun to take along. I already have a 12 gauge and consider it a bit over kill lol so... I am thinking of getting a 410 bore or a 20 gauge aside from the huge cost difference in ammo prices and the recoil is there an advantage to one more than the other in performance? (keep in mind I would like to possibly eat the squirrels so the less mangled the better)Tags: None
